1. Definition
"Telehealth" means the mode of delivering health care services by means of synchronous interactive audio and video, as defined in California Business & Professions Code §2290.5.
2. Informed consent
Before your first telehealth session, your clinician will obtain your verbal or written informed consent for telehealth services. You have the right to refuse telehealth at any time and request in-person services instead. Refusing telehealth will not affect your right to future care.
3. Risks and limitations of telehealth
- Technology failures — calls may drop, video may freeze, audio may degrade. We have a backup plan: if a session is interrupted and we cannot reconnect, your clinician will call you on the phone number on file.
- Privacy risks specific to your environment — you are responsible for ensuring your physical setting is private and free from interruption.
- Some clinical situations are not appropriate for telehealth and may require in-person care or a higher level of care.
- Telehealth is not appropriate for emergencies; if you experience an emergency, call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room.
4. Platform and security
We use a HIPAA-compliant video platform. Sessions are not recorded. You agree not to record any session without the prior written consent of your clinician.
5. Location requirements
For California-licensed clinicians, you must be physically located in the State of California at the time of any telehealth session. If you will be traveling outside California, please notify your clinician in advance — we may not be able to provide telehealth services to you while you are out of state.
6. Scheduling and availability
Telehealth is available seven days a week within our regular hours (Mon–Fri 8am–8pm; Sat–Sun 8am–4pm).
7. Emergencies
Telehealth is not for emergencies. Call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) or call 911 in an emergency.
